A Southern Soiree in Florida's Paradise Coast: My Culinary Adventure with Garden & Gun Magazine
Recently, I had the incredible honor of being hosted by Florida's Paradise Coast tourism board to visit the destination for 24 hours, kicking off with the illustrious Garden & Gun Magazine's Southern Neapolitan Night. Set against the charming backdrop of Barbatella Naples set in Old Naples, this exclusive culinary event featured a trio of local talents — Chef Fabrizio Aielli, Chef Jason Goddard, and Chef Joshua Zeman. Together, they crafted an unforgettable three-course, Italian-inspired Southern supper that took us on a delicious journey through the heart of Southern cuisine, with a Neapolitan twist.
The dinner wasn’t just a feast for the senses; it was an experience steeped in community, tradition, and hospitality that defines this vibrant region. From the fresh, locally sourced ingredients to the elegant Italian techniques, every dish was a love letter to Southern Italy’s culinary heritage. Check out the article in Garden & Gun Magazine HERE.
A Day of Exploration on Florida’s Paradise Coast
Following the lavish dinner, I was treated to a day of local sightseeing around the Naples area, giving me the perfect opportunity to explore Florida's Paradise Coast. This gem of Southwest Florida is known for its stunning 30-mile stretch of soft, white-sand beaches that line the Gulf of Mexico, offering a perfect blend of sophistication and relaxation. The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention & Visitors Bureau is the definitive source for all things travel and tourism in the area, offering something for every type of traveler — from luxurious beachfront resorts to quaint, family-friendly accommodations.
The region boasts a vibrant arts scene, upscale shopping, and some of the finest dining experiences in the state. It’s also a mecca for sports enthusiasts, with over 90 public and private golf courses, including hosting three major PGA and LPGA tournaments. Not to mention, the Paradise Coast Sports Complex hosts national and regional sporting events year-round, adding even more reason to visit this slice of paradise.
A Southwest Florida Mother-Daughter Getaway
For this trip, I invited my mom as my plus one and second photographer for the ultimate mother-daughter getaway. We both drove from our respective homes (Miami and St. Pete) and met at our luxurious host hotel, AC Hotel Naples 5th Avenue. Situated along Naples’ unofficial Main Street, this sleek and modern hotel offers a sophisticated stay while being just steps away from high-end shopping, fine dining, and the arts.
With sleek, contemporary rooms, a rooftop pool, and the stunning Limón rooftop restaurant and bar, the AC Hotel Naples sets the stage for relaxation and a hoe base for adventure and exploration of the area. Before we started our day of exploration, we enjoyed a delicious coffee in the hotel’s modern lobby. I. loved the hotel’s location as it was certainly located to easily navigate our activities and experience the best of Naples.
Discovering Naples Botanical Garden and More
Our first stop of the day was the magnificent Naples Botanical Garden, a tropical wonderland brimming with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and serene water features. The moment we stepped onto the entryway boardwalk for Naples Botanical Garden, we were transported to a tranquil escape filled with rainforests, succulents, and pools of waterlilies. The garden is a true oasis and a must-see for nature lovers.
Next, we made our way to The Baker Museum, one of Southwest Florida’s foremost fine art museums. The museum houses more than 4,000 pieces of 20th- and 21st-century art, including impressive collections of American and Mexican modern art. Its 15 galleries offer an inspiring glimpse into the world of contemporary art, making it the perfect destination for those seeking a cultural experience.
No trip to Naples would be complete without a stroll along Fifth Avenue South. This vibrant street is home to high-end boutiques, galleries, and some of the best restaurants in the area. From its humble beginnings as a small business hub in the 1920s, Fifth Avenue has blossomed into the heart of Naples’ downtown district.
We ended our day with a rooftop lunch at Limón, the AC Hotel’s chic restaurant. Overlooking the city with panoramic views, it was the perfect spot to reflect on our incredible adventure before heading back home.
